A south London institution, The Pop-Up Choir’s a capella reworkings of classic pop songs by the likes of Adele, Bruce Springsteen, Pulp and Beyoncé have been sung all round town, from Brixton to Hackney. Now we’re getting some friends together to celebrate our 5th birthday with the ultimate pop gig: MASTERS OF POP.
Compering the night is the incomparable Ida Barr, cabaret’s dearest old dear and inventor of artificial hip-hop.
Providing a vast injection of manpower and general swoon potential are Chaps Choir, the brainchild of Pop-Up’s musical director Dom Stichbury. Chaps is a male voice choir with a difference as 60 London men gather to sing arrangements that are less How Green Is My Valley, more Cream and The Verve.
Pop-Up has provided backing vocals to a variety of artists over the years, including Shlomo and Jamie Martyr. We are very excited to welcome Jamie’s new project, the wonderful Martyr Electric: expect gorgeous electro weaving around stunning vocals.
Drawn from all over SE5, the Camberwell Community Choir are based at St. Giles, and performed a wonderful set for us at our last SE5 show. We are thrilled to have them back with us for our birthday gig.
And then there’s us: The Pop-Up Choir. Expect everything from beautiful choral covers to boys singing J.Lo. We can’t wait to see you.
Bring on the pop!
